Not so long ago wireless networking was only used in specific vertical industries mainly as wire replacements. Today WLAN and WAN technologies have developed to the point where those are now being used across all industry sectors, but still mainly in consumer type applications.
Application examples:Total Bus Passenger and Vehicle Data Gathering System European wide ticket, passenger count and vehicle mileage/service data gathering/updating system. Data is transmitted to garage in real time with GPRS modem. WLAN connection is used for full download/upload at arrival to the garage. Gasoline Truck Automatic Loading/Unloading Information System Embedded WLAN system in each truck, gas station and filling depot. Remote controlled Warehouse Crane Control and Steering System The crane (unmanned) is steered to pick-up or place product from/to warehouse shelves through WLAN link Paper Mill Service Forecasting System Sensors (vibration, etc…) transmit information to WLAN boxes via bluetooth/serial cables. WLAN transmits the data to the central computer. In a typical paper mill this saves several kilometers of cable and the number of sensors can be increased considerably compared to traditional cable systems. Remote monitoring from anywhere in the world is possible. |
